Do you remember that I wrote about this great jewelry discovery in Playa del Carmen? Well, I found the designer! a gentle and talented Mexican woman, I was lucky to talk to her about her jewelry and what does it mean KALOSOMA for her.
KALOSOMA “beautiful body” in ancient Greek, is a perfectly thought name for a jewelry collection inspired by nature. All started in her childhood, when Claudia Quiroz took goldsmith lessons in the “Convento del Carmen”, but it was until she turned 40 when she decided to undertake a journey through what she always wanted: “design jewelry”.
She started investigating the different art craft techniques to build up KALOSOMA jewelry; during this searching process she noticed that in Mexico there is much folk art diversity and many high quality materials, which were hided and needed to be discovered. But KALOSOMA is not only Claudia Quiroz: nowadays she works hand-to-hand with over 100 Mexican artisans from all over the country.
The designer described her work as original and of high quality: “there are pieces who need 7 or 8 processes to reach the expected quality” she says, “the production process is the most important for me and sales come when people get to know the product”.
Mother of 2 young men, Claudia Quiroz and her team had created more than 300 original designs and had reached to build up a comfortable and creative place for her creations. “I wake up every morning and I’m happy to go to work”, she says.
I can just add that it is inspiring to find people who fight for its dreams and it is so true what she answered me when I asked for an advice to all people who want to design: “WORK, WORK, WORK… …AND PATIENCE!”.
